Q: How do I update my BQTournament Software to the latest version?
A: To update to the latest software version, go to the Download page. Re-submit the download form, then download the software. Run the installer. IGNORE THE MESSAGE TO UNINSTALL. You DO NOT need to uninstall the previous version before installing the latest version. When you install, the newer version replaces the older version, and all of your previous data is now available in the new version.

Q: Is there a difference between the trial version and the licensed version?
A: No. When you purchase a license, the reminder to purchase window will not appear anymore. If you purchased a coordinator license, the backup and post to website buttons will be activated. But the software itself is the same. You do not have to download another copy of the software or anything.

Q: I have purchased a software license. How do I get my license key?
A: To obtain each purchased license key, complete the Request Key Form. Within two business days, we will respond with your license key. Be sure to add info@upcquiz.com and support@upcquiz.com to your address book so that our emails do not end up in your spam folder.

Q: How do I install a purchased license key for BQTournament?
A: To obtain each purchased license key, complete the Request Key Form. Within two business days, we will respond with your license key. When you first start the application, a reminder window will appear. Click the Submit Key button. Paste or type the license key in the submit key form.

Q: I have purchased a UPCquiz Team Account. How will I know when to start using my purchased account?
A: If you have purchased a UPCquiz Team Account, you will receive an email within two business days letting you know when your purchased account is activated.

Q: I have requested a new password for my Team Account, but nothing has happened and I can't log in. What do I do?
A: You should have received an email containing your new password. If you did not receive this email, add info@upcquiz.com and support@upcquiz.com to your address book. Then request a new password again. If you still do not receive your new password via email, contact us.

Q: Is the BQTournament Software only for Bible Quiz Coordinators?
A: No! The software contains features and tools that are very useful to Bible Quiz coaches, including the ability to keep score electronically during quizzes, keep official time at practices, and maintain statistics on quizzers. Statistics are maintained for both practices and tournaments.

Q: Will districts with few quiz teams be able to use online tournament registration?
A: Most definitely, yes! Announcing and setting up tournaments for online registration is free and available to all districts. The only cost is to teams, since a team must have a $5/year UPCquiz account to be able to register for online tournaments. This restriction is necessary to prevent unauthorized registrations.

Q: How are the generated tournament matrix forms fair and balanced?  What is the logic behind their design?
A: We have spent many hours making sure that the generated matrix forms are designed to be fair to all teams.  We have worked very closely with Bro. Bobby Long, the North American Junior Bible Quizzing Director, to make certain that the BQTournament generated matrices match the logic that he has used in designing matrices for district and national Bible Quiz tournaments.  Below is a summary of our logic in the matrix form design.

  • All byes occur at the beginning of each bracket.  Doing this helps ensure that the teams in trophy range have earned the right to be there.
  • There are the same number of games (or one more if an odd number of teams) in the top half of a bracket as in the bottom half.  This balanced design is ideal for multiple session tournaments, and evenly spreads out any bye games.
  • Teams that played in the top half of round 1 will play in the bottom half of round 2 (unless this is a single session tournament).  The reason for this is so that quizzers are exposed to different quizmasters during the progression of the tournament.
  • The ordering of teams in round 2 is reversed in the first two columns (or three columns depending on byes).  This apparent mix-match design helps to prevent teams from losing early in round 2 to the same team they lost to in round 1.  It also gives teams the opportunity to see many different teams quiz in their sessions.
  • We have analyzed the resulting matrix forms one by one and adjusted them as needed to make them the most fair for teams. This detailed analysis has been done for up to 50 teams, and we will analyze matrix forms for more than 50 teams in the near future.
